Video-based portfolio contain moving content such as film samples, television samples, video art, motion graphics and other such media. Common examples would include Director's reels, Cinematographer's reels, Motion graphics reels, Resume tapes, Actor's reels, and Animation reel. Video-based portfolios can also be used by sign language interpreters, educators and other professionals who use video to document what they do.

Increasingly video-based portfolio are housed within Web-based portfolios.
