Audio-based portfolios contain sound files such as music, voice-over work, readings and broadcasts. Common examples would include Demo CDs, Voiceover Reels, Radio Demos and Airchecks. Audio-based portfolios are often used by musicians, voiceover artists, radio personalities, broadcast journalists, recording engineers and vocalists. They are also used by teachers, producers and anyone else who works primarily in an aural medium.

Increasingly audio-based portfolio are housed within Web-based portfolios.
