An "authored" DVD contains a menu screen that guides the viewer. While a movie might have special features and chapters, a DVD [reel] usually offers options like [clip]s, the [reel] itself or even full length cuts of projects that were important.

An authored DVD ensures the viewer controls what he or she wants to watch, as opposed to a DVD that plunges right into material.
