Animation reel

From Portfolio Center

Animators use animation reels to show clips of their computer and traditional animation skills. Similar to other types of demo reels, animation reels are generally short (2-5 minutes) and featurea variety of work set to music, though some professionals suggest that students attempt to tell a short story to engage their audience.

Animators MUST be careful not to infringe on any copyright issues in their reels. This includes using work from films, television or print media that the animator does own the rights to. Common examples of this include copying well-known characters (such as Woody Woodpecker or Mickey Mouse) and showing them in the reel or using clips from films that the animator does not own the right to. Anytime an animator works on a project for a company such as Disney, Pixar or Warner Bros., that work is owned by the company, not the animator.
